Leiden Manuscript Vocabulary Collection

概要 (Overview)

1343年に成立したモンゴル語-ペルシャ語、およびアラビア語-モンゴル語の語彙集と会話集。ライデン大学図書館に保存されている手写本で、モンゴル学者の間では M.Th. Houtsma と N.N. Poppe の研究以降、慣習的に「ライデン写本」と呼ばれている。

A Mongolian-Persian and Arabic-Mongolian vocabulary and phrasebook compiled in 1343 CE (743 AH), preserved in Leiden University Library. Customarily called the “Leiden Manuscript” among Mongolists after the works of M.Th. Houtsma and N.N. Poppe.

写本は2つの部分から成る:

  1. テュルク語部分 (キプチャク語の語彙集と文法)
  2. モンゴル語部分 (ff. 63b-75b) ― 後から追加されたと考えられる

物理的特徴 (Physical Description)

  • 大きさ: 242 x 165-200 x 130 mm
  • 紙質: 粗く厚みのある艶のある薄茶色の紙。底部に虫食いの損傷（部分的に深刻）
  • 行数: 13行
  • 書体: 太字のナスフ体（黒と赤）、部分的に母音記号付き
  • 装飾: 見出しとキャプションは赤色。大きく母音記号付きのバスマラで開始（f. 63b）
  • 奥書: f. 62bに743/1343年の年記を含む

  • 収集者: Levinus Warner コレクション (1665年)
  • 所有者印: f. 1aの修復された端に判読不能な所有者印あり

研究史 (Research History)

ニコラス・ポッペによる先駆的研究

ポッペはこのコピーをウィリー・バング・カウプ教授より入手し、1927～28年のロシア科学アカデミーの会報に寄稿した。

成立年の訂正 (Date Correction Issue)

論文には、語彙集の成立は1245年と誤記されているが、ポッペの自伝(『ニコラス・ポッペ回想録』, 三一書房, 1990. [原著: “Reminiscences”, 1983.])によると1343年成立が正しい。

中国の文献との関連

“蒙古族文化”(蔡志純 他著, 中国社会科学出版社, 1993.)には、語彙数600語近い『アラビア語-モンゴル語辞典』が1245年に編纂されたとの記述があるが、おそらくこの語彙集のことであろう（年代の誤記を含む）。

The Chinese publication Mongol Culture mentions an Arabic-Mongolian dictionary of nearly 600 words compiled in 1245, likely referring to this manuscript (with the date error).
