Horses depend on their standing ground, households on their mutual support

адуугаа дагасан даага, авд унах морь болох, архичнаа дагасан багачууд, айлд өвгөн болох

成馬の後をついていく若馬は狩り用の馬として成長するが、酒飲みについていく若者は家々の老人になる

The colt that follows the herd becomes a mount for the hunt; the youths who follow the drunkard become old men in other people's homes

адуунд азаргагүй бол сүрэг болж чадахгүй, галуунд тэргүүнгүй бол цуваа болж чадахгүй

馬は種馬がいなければ馬群にはなれず、ガンはリーダーがいなければ隊列を組めない

Without a stallion the horses cannot form a herd, without a leader the geese cannot form a skein

ажилгүй эхнэртэй хамт ханилшгүй, атаат дайсантай хамт явшгүй

働かない妻とは共に連れ添えず、不倶戴天の敵とは共に歩めない

You cannot live with an idle wife, you cannot travel with a sworn enemy

айл аймаг эетэй нь сайхан, ах дүү найртай нь сайхан

隣人は和やかなのがよく、兄弟は仲睦まじいのがよい

Neighbours are good when in harmony, brothers are good when in accord

айлд орсон хүн, идээ амсдаг, модонд очсон хүн, бохь зажилдаг

人の家に入った者は、ご馳走を味見し、木立に行った者は、樹液（ガム）を噛む

One who enters a home tastes the food, one who goes to the trees chews the resin

айлд суухад айлыг дага, хүүхэд нохой хоёроо бүү өмөөр

他人の家で暮らすときはその家に倣い、自分の子どもと犬を身びいきするな

When you live in another's home follow that home, and do not take the side of your own child or your own dog

айлчаар ирэгсдэд бүү уурла, арга сурагчдад бүү хорос

客としてやって来た者に怒るな。教えを乞う者に腹を立てるな

Do not be angry with those who come as guests, do not resent those who come to learn

айлчин хүн, өглөөгүүр алт, үдэш мөнгө, өнжөөд гууль

客人は、午前中は金、夕方は銀、一日置くと真鍮（しんちゅう）

A guest is gold in the morning, silver in the evening, brass after a day

айлчнаа хүндэлсэн үүдэнд, онгоноо хүндэлсэн хойморт

客人を敬うのは入口であり、祖霊を敬うのは上座である

Respect for the guest is at the door, respect for the ancestors at the place of honour
